Camie Stewart - Chapter 3

A few days later, Trey had to go out of town with his father for a couple of days, so my mother invited me for a night out, so that we could discuss certain things. I knew that my mother wanted to talk to me about my wedding. I tried to make her understand that we were not going to get married very soon. I still had a couple of months to go to finish high school, and Trey had a couple of years more to finish college. Then we had to find a job, buy a house, and lots of other things as well

"Well, no Camie," she said. "Those things shouldn't be a problem. You are our only child, and we will buy you the house of your dreams. Trey will certainly find a job, even if he doesn't finish college. Your father can offer him a job in his company, or maybe he will get a job in his father's company. Certainly, he doesn't expect you to go to work. You shouldn't even think about it."

"Why not?" I asked. I knew it was a stupid question, and my mother didn't even bother to answer. That was the way in our class. Men go to work, bring home lots of money, and the women just spend the day at home, or shopping around.
That was my mother! She was from Simville, and had been brought up that way. She had married my father when she was 19, and those were her dreams for me, to see me settled with a good, rich young man. There were so many things that I wanted to do which were so different from life back in Simville. I had been living away from the place for two whole years, and I certainly didn't feel like a Sim anymore. I was all Pennsburgh now.
Suddenly at the pinball machines, I saw a very familiar face. It was Romy, Romy from Simville. Romy my old best friend. Romy who had forgotten all about me the minute I moved away. I looked the other way, pretending not to see her. I knew that she didn't recognise me, I had changed so much.
As we were walking through McDonalds, my mother spotted Romy sitting at a table. She walked over to her. Romy greeted my mother happily, and then she turned to me. I tried to turn away from her, but my mother grabbed my hand and said,
"Now Camie, don't be silly. Romy didn't talk to you because she didn't recognise you. After all you have changed a lot." Romy looked very surprised.

"Camie?" she asked. "Oh my god, I wouldn't have known you in a million years."
"Yes," I answered coldly, "It's Camie from back home, but of course, I don't think you remember me, do you?"
The next day, much to my dismay, I walked home from school, to find Romy in the kitchen, sitting at the table.
"What is she doing here?" I asked.
"Oh come on, Camie," my mother replied. "I have invited Romy over, and we were about to have something to eat." I said nothing and sat down at the table. After a few minutes, Trey came over.

During lunch I hardly spoke a word. Finally it was my mother who broke the silence.

"Guess what? Romy has moved to Pennsburgh. She is going to college here next year, and so she bought a small house, and came to live here for a while." Romy smiled,
"Yes, and now we could hang out together just like the good old days." I suddenly trembled. I didn't want Romy back in my life. Everyone could see that Romy was a loser, and everybody thought that I had always been a winner. At that moment, Trey looked up puzzled, as if to ask me where the hell did I know this girl.

And at that moment I also remembered the hurt that Romy had caused when she had ditched me out of her life. So I looked up at her and said,

"What good old days? Oh, maybe you're talking about when we used to play together when we were kids. Well, that was so long ago, I had forgotten about it. Just because our parents happen to be best friends, that doesn't mean that we have to be too." I said coldly. Nobody else spoke a word, and I finished my dinner in silence.
Later on, when they were out of ear-shot, I tried to explain to Trey about Romy, and how she was my childhood friend. But Trey looked at me, and said,

"Camie, you don't have to explain anything to me. I don't care who or what were you before I met you. All I know is this amazing girl, and I don't want to know anything else." I hugged him, because it was so great that Trey would still love me, even after he had come face to face with my past.

Later on as Romy was leaving, I followed her outside. I went over to her, and said in a stern voice,

"Listen to me, Pennsburgh is not a town for losers. It is a town where only the beautiful and the popular will survive. So my advice is that you should take care of that before you start college. I will promise you not to tell anyone a single thing about you, or about your past, but in return you must leave me in peace. There are no more good old days. Those days were over on that night when you told me that there was no room for me in your life. And thanks to that, I have started anew and made up a whole new past, which led to my present life. I will not tell my mother about what you had done to me, and since this is her house, I guess you are quite welcome here. But please stop pretending that we can ever be friends again."

It was only two weeks later when the trouble started. One morning I got up, and I was feeling very sick. I went in the bathroom and threw up. At first I thought nothing about this. But then it happened again, and again, and finally my mother got very worried, and took me to the doctor. And there my worst fear came true. The doctor told me that I was pregnant.

That evening we went out for a drink. I was planning to tell Trey that night. My mother had promised me that she will tell my father. But I didn't know how to start. How could I tell this 20 year old boy, who was very much in love with life, that he was about to become a father?
I told Trey to go and sit on the beach, because there was something that I had to say to him. After a few beatings around the bush, I managed to tell him that I was pregnant. He was silent for a moment, and then he said,

"We will get married of course. After all we are already engaged." I didn't know what to say, so I said,

"I don't want you to marry me because of the baby."

"I won't. I had already asked you to marry me, the only difference is that we will get married now, instead of in a couple of years. Anyway, what did your mother say?"

"She didn't say anything today, but after we got engaged she had insisted that we get married very soon. She even said that her and daddy will buy us a house, and dad will offer you a job in his company if you quit college. So I think she would stick to her plan even more, now that I am pregnant." Trey got up and smiled,

"Well, my dad could give me a job too, but my folks aren't as rich as yours, and maybe they could not afford to buy us a fully furnished house on such short notice."

"Well mine certainly can," I answered. "See," he said, "Everything will be ok. We will get married, and I promise that I will make you very happy." I didn't know what to think. I loved Trey, and I wanted to be with him, but I didn't want to be a woman and a mother yet. I sighed. It seemed like the curse of Simville was still upon me, and I was going to get married a teenager, just like everybody else there.
It was time that Sandy knew the truth. So the following day I asked her to come with me for a walk along the beach. Sandy was surprised because it had been rather a long time since we had had a day out on our own. And there I told her the truth, that I was pregnant, that I was marrying Trey, and that my parents were going to buy me a house to live in, and give Trey a job. Sandy was speechless.
"Pregnant? How can you be pregnant? You're only 18!"

"I know that, please don't keep on reminding me. Well, it's happened, and now I have to try real hard to be a good mother and wife."

"When are you getting married?"

"Soon I said, in four to six weeks time. My parents say that I have to get married before I start growing big, otherwise I won't be able to fit in any dress." I turned to her. "Listen, you are my best friend, and I would like you to be my bridesmaid. What do you think?" She hugged me. "Of course I will be your bridesmaid. So you are having a big wedding after all."

"Well, " I said, "Trey and me would prefer a small wedding where only our closest friends will be invited, but knowing my mother, she certainly will not agree, and will throw a big thing. I probably will have to find other bridesmaids besides you."

"What about Devnee and Anthea?" she asked.

"Well, I've thought about them, but you know since you used to tell me that Devnee had a crush on Trey, I thought that she might not be too happy to be a bridesmaid at his wedding."Sandy laughed,

"Oh, you're so behind things. Devnee has gotten over Trey long ago. Probably she had gotten over him the day when the month was up, and Trey didn't leave you. She's got Bryan, and I guess she will be really happy to see you getting married, so that you won't be a danger anymore, cos I think she knows about that night you had gone with Bryan."

"Oh my god," I exclaimed. "How did she find out?" Sandy smiled. "

Well, let's just say that Bryan isn't Mr.Perfect, and he's gone astray a few more other times. But she loves him, and would never dream of leaving him." I shrugged. I didn't care about Bryan anymore. I was in love with Trey, and I was carrying his child.

About three weeks later, on a Saturday my father took the day off from work, and he told me to call Trey to come over, and ask his parents to come along with him. I did so, and shortly afterwards Trey was at my house with his mother, because his father was working. My parents told us that they were going to show us the house they had bought for me and Trey. After about half an hour's drive, my father stopped the car, and told us to get out. Then he came towards me and Trey, put his arms around us, and told us

"This is your future home, where I hope that you will be happy for the rest of your lives."

I was speechless. This was not a house - this was a mansion. It was so big,how could such a house be mine? My mother saw the amazement on our faces, and laughed.

"There is a large garden at the back too. We have finished furnishing your living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. The rest will have to come later. Of course the next room we will start on will be the nursery."

"But mum, how can I look after such a big house?" I asked in total shock.

"Do as I have always done, honey. Hire a maid, a gardener, a cook if needed, and everything will be fine."

My father handed me the keys and Trey and me ran inside. First we entered the kitchen. It was unlike any other kitchen I had ever seen. My parents had very expensive furnishings, but even their kitchen looked cheap compared to this one.

And what about the living room? It looked like a room out of a palace. I could not believe my parents were doing all this for me. After all I had disgraced them by getting pregnant. Even Trey could not believe his eyes
After we went all around the house, we went outside in the large garden. My mother and Linda sat down at the table, and I joined them, while my father and Trey's father showed Trey around the garden. I was so happy. Linda thanked my mother for everything she and dad were doing for her son, and me
I hugged my mum and my dad. I was so happy for what they were doing for me. Then my mum went over to Trey and she hugged him close to her, and told him that she loved him as if he were her own son. Then my father too hugged Trey, and told him that he hoped he will make them proud.

* * *

And finally came the big day. I was trembling as I walked down the aisle with my father, and my bridesmaids around me. I loved Trey, and I wanted to be his wife, but I was so scared of the future.

All through the wedding ceremony, I couldn't sit still. I kept fidgeting on the chair. Even Trey was looking really nervous. I had heard people talk about these feelings on their wedding day, but the experience of it was very different. I was going through the motions like a robot, but I hardly knew what was happening around me. All the time, I kept thinking

"What if something goes wrong, and I discover I don't really love Trey? How can I act like a wife, when I'm only 18 years old? How will I look after the baby?" But mostly I kept thinking, "Are we doing the right thing? Was this the right thing to do?"

And finally came the moment of truth. There was not a single sound to be heard, as me and Trey exchanged our vows. "I do" - just a couple of words that changed everything. I looked around me. My mother had started crying, and so had Trey's mum. Even Sandy was wiping her eyes, and my father stood there, looking as proud as can be, as Camie Stewart ceased to be, and I became Mrs Trey Roberts.

"You may now kiss the bride." And that was the moment when all my fears dissolved. As I kissed Trey, I thought, "Well, we may be young, but we are in love. And that's what matters." At that moment, I suddenly knew that everything was going to turn out fine. There was nothing to be afraid of.

It was a lovely wedding. Everything turned out perfect. It was the happiest day of my life. I was treated like a queen. Everybody laughed, danced, ate and drank, and had a good time.

I tried to spend as much time with my friends as possible, because I knew things were going to be different now. I was a married woman. And what's more, it was only a matter of weeks now, before I started showing. And in a few months, the baby will be born. And then I won't have much time to go out with my friends

As the day neared the end, I saw Romy across the hall. My mother must have invited her. And suddenly, I had a clear recollection of all those weekends at The Mall, and of Romy telling me all about her dreams - the typical Simville girl dreams.

At that moment, I remember thinking - "I guess when you're a Sim, you'll always remain a Sim, even if you move far away, and start a different life." I had gotten married in my teens, like every other Sim girl, and I was going to become a mother much before I turned twenty.

I really love how this story is flowing - nice and slow, listening to Camie's thoughts and feelings along the way. We have the privilege of seeing how her life is evolving. I think it's interesting that she was hoping to escape the 'typical life' and thought she had succeeded, but then ended up living the same kind of life she was trying to get away from. Well done!
